JUNE FOCUS
The lazy days of summer are here. In our early childhood environment, this
means more time for outdoor discovery and play activities. Our Creative Curriculum says this about discovery: “Young children wonder about the world around
them. They think to themselves: I wonder what will happen if I push this
button. I wonder what the bunny feels
like. I wonder why my plant died. I wonder how I can make a bigger
bubble….discovery is a place to find answers with few right or wrong
answers. It is a place to spark
curiosity and wonder….allowing children to use their senses to touch, feel,
taste, smell and see”. The Discovery
Area enhances all areas of development. Social/Emotional Development – children learn to work together as they
explore, make discoveries, and solve problems. Physical Development – they develop fine motor skills when using eye
droppers to squeeze colored water or pick up a dead insect and develop gross
motor skills creating shadows on the wall with their bodies or run in place to
feel their pulse. Cognitive Development
– using all their process skills to organizing thought by classifying,
comparing, measuring, counting, and graphing. Language Development – sharing their discoveries with others, talking
about investigations, ask questions, and share experiences. Discovery is an important part of preschool
development and summer months bring many outdoor experiences to the classroom.
The summer is a time of review for our Bible
Cornerstones curriculum. Each classroom
will focus on their favorite Bible stories and Bible verses from the
curriculum. I wonder if it will be
Creation, Daniel and the Lions Den, Moses, the Good Samaritan, We Worship
Jesus, God’s Son, or maybe Noah. How
about this as a favorite Bible verse, “God loved us and sent His son”. John 4:10. Watch for information in the lesson plans on the parent board in each
classroom or in your child’s newsletter.

AMERICAN
RED CROSS “PINT SIZED HEROES” PROGRAM
Cornerstone Daycare will partner with the American Red
Cross this summer. The American Red
Cross has a special developmentally appropriate program designed for children
ages four through school-age called “Pint Sized Heroes”. Watch for a letter in your child’s cubbie
about the program which will take place on June 22nd here at the
center. A representative of the American
Red Cross will visit the center to talk to the children on the facts of blood,
how it is used in medicine to help others, and how the Red Cross helps in this
process. As a result of our partnership,
the Blood Mobile will be at the center on July 13th taking blood
donations. Our goal is to help our
community by reaching our goal of 21 units of blood donated that day. Put this day on your calendar now!! Let’s make a difference together!!
